Here is a unique idea to improve your yard as a selling point: get your yard certified as a backyard wildlife habitat.
The Mecklenburg Times newspaper features the idea as a way for your home to stand out from the crowd of homes for sale. According to the article, the National Wildlife Federation certifies yards that are wildlife-friendly as part of its Backyard Wildlife Habitats program. The feature goes on to suggest that this certification is desirable because such habitats save time an money "because they incorporate sustainable gardening practices, such as growing native and drought-resistant plants, using rain barrels to capture storm water that is reused to water plants, reducing the amount of lawn space requiring maintenance and growing plants and trees that shade and cool the house."
Of course, any "plus" that your home has should be properly marketed by professional Realtor to make the most each and every selling point.
